The Core Sore

with 16 comments

The Yanks have hit the ground crawling by opening the 2017 campaign with a 1-4 record after another come from behind loss to  the Buck O’s 5-4

Despite us warning ourselves in March this train wreck could happen, and Spring Training was gonna be our highlight, I didn’t really want to believe that…

At least the 2017 Bomber squad broke it to us early when Nibbles Tanaka the Spring Training Cy Young, said “Sayonara” to  Opening Day after 1 inning with his mysterious 2.2 innings, 8 hits, 7 runs, 2 BB debacle..

Tanaka was better yesterday, but still not better enough..

The Orioles have a dangerous line-up, I don’t get 34 yr old  Seth Smith,  lifetime .261 .344 .449 .793..Now in 4 games is  hitting  .385 .385 .769 1.154, but nothing surprises me when Buck Showalter is in the other dugout.. It’s a natural  fact, Bucky Show owns a cafeteria filled with Joe Girardi’s lunches

Nibbles and Bits

Tanaka cruised 1-2-3 through the  1st, gave up  a walk and a single in the 2nd, went back to  cruising 1-2-3 in the third before his kamikaze attack on the 4th  and 5th innings  unfolded before our very eyes

After throwing 32 pitches in 3 innings, it took Tanaka 60 pitches to crawl away from the 4th  and 5th innings with a 4-3 lead.. Once again a Yankees starter couldn’t pitch  6 innings..

No Worries, If this is a process, then Tanaka should be better in his next outing, if he’s not injured

5 innings, 6  hits, 3 runs, 4 BB’s, 5 K’s, no HR’s .11.74 ERA

New School Daze

The Yanks were a victim  new school yesterday, when  for no  other reason then he could, Girardi yanked Sheriff Adam Warren who had finally  restored some order in the game with a brilliant 1.1 innings of relief. pitching….

1.1 innings, 1 K, 10 pitches 8  strikes

A sign the apocalypse is coming was yanking a pitcher who is in complete control of the game, and it  was excepted.. !

Not a peep out of Shag Singleton or his dummy Michael Kay  about how absurd replacing Warren  with the inferior Penny Layne was.. Why,  so Girardi  could play match up ?

Here’s where the game was lost,

Layne relieved Warren. 4 3
Davis doubled to deep right. 4 3
Betances relieved Layne. 4 3
Trumbo singled to center, Davis scored. 4 4
Castillo lined out to center. 4 4
Trumbo stole second. 4 4
Kim singled to right, Trumbo scored. 4 5

In  a long line of Low Points this season, yanking Warren  for Layne wasn’t the worst, these new school nitwits like Joe the Chemist do it all  the time…

Trumbo stealing a base, then scoring the winning run on a  Korean bat flip base hit could be the Lowest of All  so far this season…

After the barn door was left open  and the Yanks lost a lead with the best Bull Pen in baseball  now set up  for the kill, Romine caught pinch  runner Rickard stealing to  break Betances’  22 for 22 stolen base line.. Give those two  a Gold star

The Core Sore

The next Core 2 Sanchez and Bird who  tore up  Spring Training, so  far have not gotten untracked once the bell  rang.. Stage Fright?

Bird is now confirmed: the  foul ball off his ankle in a blow out Spring Training game on March 30th vs the Phillies has nagged him from the start.. I did see that play, and yes he looked hurt, and yes I cringed…

I guess now we can  whistle past  the graveyard and use Bird’s injury as an  excuse, he’s due back in the line-up  for Opening Day… Of course he is, with Sanchez out indefinitely they need some marquee for Levine’s ticket sales

Hours after third-place hitter Greg Bird couldn’t play due to a bruised right ankle, the Yankees watched Gary Sanchez exit Saturday’s 5-4 loss to the Orioles in front of 38,916 at Camden Yards with a strained right biceps muscle injury severe enough to land him on the 10-day disabled list.

“Today wasn’t ideal, losing the lead and Gary getting hurt … it’s like a kick in the stomach,’’ Brett Gardner said

Nuff Said, Tanaka sucking, the humbling  come from behind loss, Betances getting mugged, Girardi  yanking a pitcher in complete control, Bird proving how injury prone he really is, dulls in comparison to  the SanChize heading to  the DL with  a bad right arm

The Yanks rolled the dice on Sanchez Bird and Judge, so  far

Sanchez has had One shining moment, a long HR in an otherwise 3 for 20 / .150 .190 .300 .490 start to  the season

Judge  hasn’t been terrible, just under whelming  2 for 15 with a double and 5 K’s .133 .188 .200 .388

Bird has been an unmitigated disaster on both  sides of the ball 1 for 126 with  2 BB, 7 K’s 063 .167 .125 .292, and a few questionable plays on defense

The Yanks will  try to  salvage at least  one game in Baltimore before limping back to  the Bronx in what  could have been the most exciting Opening Day  in quite some time..

Instead, everything that  could have gone wrong has, and there is a very good chance not one of the projected Core of Sanchez Bird and Gregorius, will be in Girardi’s line-up

    • Hahaha

We finally get a lefty in that slug Miley

Sanchez on the 10 day DL
      Either that was misdiagnosed
      Or I’m a brain surgeon

So we know he’ll out 4 to 6 weeks

Bird out with a flu man those opening day ticket prices should be dropping to buy one get one free
      Girardi needs the flu

  2. We should know conclusively about Bird in a day or two. He’s going for tests when they get back to NY.
The Bosses aren’t happy. I can’t keep Sonny in check. He wants to make an example of someone. Show strength. I say we give him Penny Layne & bring up Montgomery. This way, for the optics, it looks like we responded.
Jeez! Can we please get outta town with 1 win from this “Lost Weekend” starring Ray Milland & Buck O’s Unrelenting Lineup???

    • Bird may have the flu along with a sore ankle. This road trip has been hell week, its not bad enough they are losing but they are losing key players. Hard to believe the difference in the team from the great spring training to whats happening now. Kernan interviewed Machado,he was talking about rumors he would play with the Yanks along with Harper and Sanchez-lets light some candles and don’t forget Trout and Harvey!!
Bob Cerv ex-Yankee great from the 50’s and 60’s passed away-RIP

    • That sucks, damn artificial intelligence lol Pretty much Donny, O’Day pitched like he had the flu, or one of your brownies, so he walked a million guys… Buck wasn’t so smart yesterday, without Brach and Britton

Sweet Lou said he was always a genius on the days Randy Johnson pitched
