The Perfect Pineda

with 6 comments

It was a glorious Opening Day  in the Bronx filled with both pomp and circumstance, two of Curt Schilling’s favorite Ghosts

#HalCare always throws a party on these sacred occasions, and yesterday  was no  exception..

#30 Slick Willie from Brooklyn was sporting his WBC Bling, always great  to  see Willie..

Papa Joey Quaaludes also from Brooklyn slurred his way  through  telling BrickHouse how unbiased he is now that Rob Manfred signs his checks and not #HalCare.. But, of course nothing compares to  all  the Yankees hardware he’s gathered over the years,  morphing him from Clueless Joe to #6 Joey Quaaludes

Daily News

#HalCare also  had the BamTino on board to complete the Team USA theme.. Some babe with a cab running sang the National Anthem, and we were under way….

The enigmatic Michael Pineda was King for a Day, he took  a no  hitter into  the 8th  inning and looked like guys look when they’re tossing a no hitter,  really dominant.

His Slider had a downward tilt, his fast ball had Natural life, and catcher Austin Romine pretty much led Pineda around like a puppy dog, and the paper training worked..

For the most part Pineda never shook off Romine, and throughout the 7.2 innings, sans the Longoria 2 out double that woke the whole Stadium up from this mysterious dream, Romine had Pineda pumping the perfect tempo, never too  quick never too slow..

7.2 innings,  2 hits,  1 run, 0  BB’s, 11 K’s  1HR, 93-67 pitches, ERA 3.97

The Yanks held a 3-0 lead for 7 innings, and then all Hell broke loose in the 8th when they dropped a 5 spot on Cobb and the Rays bull pen. The onslaught capped off their 2nd win in a row an 8-1 nail biter turned laugher on Opening Day at the Stadium

Hit and Run

The Yanks scored their first  run  off a very tough Alex Cobb who on any other day  may have waltzed out of the Bronx with a W..

In the Third inning

Gardner struck out swinging, Gardner safe at first on wild pitch by Cobb.
Ellsbury doubled to deep right, Gardner scored. 1-0 Yanks

1 RUNS, 1 HITS, 0 ERRORS

The Yanks wasted no time doubling up  the 1-0 advantage in the 4th Inning

Castro struck out swinging.
Headley struck out looking.
Judge homered to left (391 feet). 2-0 Yanks

1 RUNS, 1 HITS, 0 ERRORS

9 outs in a row were interrupted by a Chase Headley HR in the 7th Inning

Headley homered to right (347 feet). 3-0 Yanks

1 RUNS, 1 HITS, 0 ERRORS

Logan Morrison scared up Pineda’s shutout in the top of the 8th  with a HR, but  All Hell broke loose in the bottom of the 8th off a tired Cobb, and a bewildered  Pruitt

Gardner safe at first on error by second baseman Miller
Gardner stole second.
Ellsbury lined out to right.
Gardner stole third.
Holliday doubled to deep center, Gardner scored. 4-1
Pruitt relieved Cobb.
Carter tripled to deep left center, Holliday scored. 5-1
Castro homered to right center (378 feet), Carter scored. 7-1
Headley singled to right.
Judge reached on infield single to first, Headley to second.
Romine grounded into fielder’s choice to pitcher, Headley safe at third on error by pitcher Pruitt, Judge to second.
Torreyes grounded into fielder’s choice to third, Headley scored, Judge out at third, Romine to second. 8-1
5 RUNS, 5 HITS, 2 ERRORS

  1. Stuff you gotta watch..

So now we know why Shreve was up, so they could send him down.. They also kicked Montgomery up 5 days, anytime Tanaka can get 5 days it has to help..They obviously don’t feel Montgomery’s service time clock matters…. fooled me, then again they can ship his ass out of here as fast as they shipped him in with Cessa having a good outing at AAA, and Green on the same schedule as Monty

Pitching for their supper…Tomorrow is a big day for Montgomery fans, and NYY fans

Sanchez out four weeks. Gary Sanchez will miss four weeks with a Grade I strain of his brachialis muscle. That’s the muscle behind the biceps. Girardi clarified that the Yankees expect Sanchez to be back in the big leagues in four weeks, not just starting baseball activity.

Montgomery to debut Wednesday. Jordan Montgomery will start Wednesday’s game and make his big league debut. Girardi said they’re doing that specifically to give Masahiro Tanaka and CC Sabathia an extra day of rest. Luis Severino will pitch Thursday instead.

Shreve sent down. The Yankees optioned Chasen Shreve to Triple-A Scranton following today’s game. That clears a 25-man roster spot for Montgomery. They still need to clear a 40-man spot. That might not happen until Wednesday.

  2. Cessa’s outing , and a bunch of familiar faces in the line up

    http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?gid=2017_04_10_lhvaaa_swbaaa_1&t=g_box&sid=milb

2B Tyler Wade: 2-4, 1 K — he’s 7-for-15 (.467) so far and has hit safely in all four games
    LF Clint Frazier: 0-3, 1 BB, 2 K
    DH Dustin Fowler: 0-4, 1 K
    RF Rob Refsnyder: 0-3, 1 K
    CF Mason Williams: 0-2
RHP Luis Cessa: 7 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, 9/2 GB/FB — 60 of 82 pitches were strikes (73%) … he took a comebacker to the calf but was able to stay in the game … LHP Jordan Montgomery will start for the big league team Wednesday, and it’s only a matter of time until Cessa gets an opportunity to start in the Bronx this year as well
RHP Ben Heller: 1 IP, zeroes, 2 K, 1/0 GB/FB — ten of 16 pitches were strikes (63%) … nice bounceback after giving up the walk-off homer yesterday
    RHP Ernesto Frieri: 1 IP, zeroes, 1 K, 0/1 GB/FB — eleven of 16 pitches were strikes (69%)

    More
As expected, Al Pedrique is very excited for Jordan Montgomery. Also said he told Montgomery he doesn’t want to see him again in SWB!
