3 Run Monty

with 7 comments

The Yanks ran  their winning streak  to 8 games with  a 7-4 win over the rebuilding, but feisty Chicago White Sox

Monty Zooms It

Jordan Montgomery made his 2nd start of the season, it pretty much  resembled his first outing vs the Rays on April  12th, but better.. Last night he gave up more earned runs, but  he also navigated through more  Quality Innings…

monty line

Montgomery was able to  eat  6 innings last night, he was in trouble in the 1st and 6th, but kept the White Sox off balance in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th… Girardi  ran him out to pitch  the 7th but that decision backfired on the Yanks, when the  5-6-7 batters in Chicago’s line-up mugged him for 3 quick runs

A. García reached on infield single to shortstop. 0 7
Davidson singled to right, A. García to second. 0 7
Sánchez homered to left (399 feet), A. García and Davidson scored. 3 7

Hindsight will always remain undefeated, but in hindsight, Girardi left the bread in the oven too long Re: Montgomery, at least that  was my original thought

the Counter

With a 7-0 lead and his pitch count under control at 79 pitches, why not see what he has? His pitch  count ceiling was 90 to  100 pitches after throwing 89 in his first  start

Montgomery did finish strong in that game  striking out his last 2 batters after allowing a lead off double, Girardi yanked him purely based on pitch count (89). Unfortunately last night Montgomery coughed up  two  soft hits on just  4 pitches

By the time Sheriff Adams Warren got ready, Monty was in a dubious 3-1 count to the White Sox DH..  Sanchez turned on a 90 MPH fast ball with no life and  deposited a crop duster Big Fly  (399 ft) into  the left field seats.. The Tater scored 3 runs, and pretty much stained what  was a good looking pitching line only minutes previous to  the disaster..

6 innings, 7 hits, 3 runs, 2 BB, 4 K’s, 1 HR, 4.22 ERA

monty innings

If you want to  take Formula Joe to  the wood shed for not reading his pitchers fatigue or removing the young pitcher after 6 shut out innings to  boost his moral, you have an  argument..

Montgomery was rolling down the road feeling fine, until the 7th inning when his pitches started to flatten out or “cut a little bit which it normally doesn’t do”..

In hindsight Montgomery for 6 with no runs, Warren for 3 scoreless, no Holder, no Penny  Layne and Bob’s Your Uncle…but then we woke up…

Revenge of the Gidrools

Speaking of Gidrools, Tony Swarzak landed a gig with the White Sox and looked terrific last night.. Swarzak pitched 2.1 innings, all  goose eggs, 3 K’s

Girardi Wounds the Sheriff

Sheriff Adam Warren hadn’t allowed a batter to  reach base  in his 4 previous outings

6.2  innings, 20 up, 20 down… That  all  ended 2 batters into his relief appearance when Saladino  worked a base on balls.. Warren eventually pitched into the 9th inning but couldn’t close it out..

With one out he gave up  a single and an RBI double to  end his night

2.1 innings, 3 hits 1 run, 1 BB, 1 K

Chappy came to  the rescue but not after a single brought the tying run to  the plate.. Chapman induced a nifty DP the 4th of the night for the Bomber defense to nail it down

DP: 4 (Kozma-Castro-Carter, Castro-Kozma-Carter, Kozma-Carter, Kozma-Castro-Bird).

A laugher turned white knuckler, left Girardi up  for questioning, but the defense rests Yankees Win, the Yankees win

Hit and Run

Holliday smacked a big 3 run Tater in the 3rd

Judge belted a 2 run Dinger in the 5th

Castro  went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles

Ellsbury had 2 knocks, and Kozma and Headley chipped in with a knock each

2B: Castro 2 (3, Holland 2); Headley (3, Holland)
HR: Holliday (2, 3rd inning off Holland 2 on, 2 Out); Judge (4, 5th inning off Holland 1 on, 2 Out)
RBI: Holliday 3 (8), Headley (4), Judge 3 (11)
2-out RBI: Holliday 3, Headley, Judge 3
GIDP: Hicks
Yankees RISP: 3-7 (Headley 1-2, Holliday 1-1, Hicks 0-1, Carter 0-1, Judge 1-2)
Team LOB: 3

  1. Nate Silver is a man with a lot of time on his hands, or maybe the little time he has gets put to good use.. Silver has invented another stat, just what we need right?

Well this one destroys the modern Save stat, as well it should, and replaces it with the Goose Egg

    • Way too much time on his hands. One can also question our genius manager for not playing Hicks the game after he won the game with 2 Homers and Bird the game after he goes 3-3 with a homer. Just makes no sense and goes against all baseball ideas.
Despite all that our boys are rolling all 7s.
Yankees need to take advantage of the teams
      while they can.

    • Desperate Donny
I was watching the Pirates play Boston the Pirates announcers were killing their out fielders for misplacing some fly balls

Boston never hits HR’s but they single / double you to death

Lieter acting like Greg Maddux is pitching

Yup glad Bird sat yesterday it really helped

    • Hey fellas

yeah sit Bird don’t want him facing a tough Lefty it’s better to let him sit on the bench then get punched out by a righty

Bird looks lost again nice job protecting him Joey
The whole team got out of grinding mode tonight oh well

Maybe they thought the bunt was an infield fly rule
