Nova On A Sunday

with 7 comments

I got the memo  this morning so I missed the DonB’s radio appearance, hopefully somebody from the Paint managed to check in.. Good Luck DonB raising awareness

Just Saying

Matt Barnes is a Fucking AssHole

Pedroia: “It’s not me. If that was me, we would’ve hit you the first day [after the slide].”

Machado pointed to his head, making clear that Barnes was out of bounds.

Pedroia: “I know. That’s bulls—. We should’ve hit you the first at-bat yesterday. I know that, and you know that. It’s not me. That’s him.”

Could there have been a stronger rebuke?

“That’s baseball,” Pedroia said. “I get drilled, and I go to first base. That’s it.”

If this guy was a Yankee he’d have a monument in center field, but because he isn’t, we’re glad to  see the O’s and Red Sox dial it up, it’ll  take one  or both of them out of their game when  they play  each other..

Nova On A Sunday

Nova (2-2) holds no ill will over his departure, saying simply “it’s business.” If anything, he’s found a comfort zone with the Pirates that eluded him in New York. Nova improved to 7-4 with a 2.76 ERA since arriving in Pittsburgh.

Yes he’s found a comfort level, it’s called the National League…

Like it or not, Ivan Nova spun a Miguel Gonzalez type 7 innings, 4 hits, 1 run, 1 BB, 7 K’s, 1 HR, 87-58 pitches at the Bombers yesterday, and the last place NL Central Division Pirates took the 3 game series with a close 2-1 win

Nova gave the Yanks a steady diet of 2 seam FB (29), 4 seam FB (33), and curve (19), he also  tossed in a show me change (6).. He picked up  7 K’s and 10 swings and misses, 4 on the 4 seamer, 3 each on the 2 seamer and curve ball

Nova can  still be a knucklehead, he walked Montgomery in the 3rd inning after slicing through the first  8 batters unscathed..

The Yanks had 2 on in the 4th on singles by Castro and Ellsbury, but Judge bounced into  a 6-4-3 DP.. No exit velocity puff piece by BrickHouse after that one…

Torreyes singled in the 5th  but Higashioka and Montgomery were punched out.

He cruised through the 6th on 9 pitches silencing the Bombers 1-2-3..

In the 7th inning  he made knuckleheads everywhere proud by hanging  a 1-0, 79 MPH curve ball that Ellsbury buried in the right field seats (385 ft) for the Yanks only run

Good luck to Nova, we always lit candles  hoping he’d make it in NY, but he didn’t, and the Pirates handed him a 3 yr, $26M contract… He’s their third highest paid player behind McCutchen 6 Yr’s $51M, and Cervelli 3 yr’s $31M

17:$7M, 18:$8.5M, 19:$8.5M
annual performance bonuses: $0.25M for 28 starts or 180 innings pitched. $0.75M for 30 starts or 190 IP. $1M for 32 starts or 200 IP.

Nova’s in a good place, the 30 yr old Dominican told you himself he was never really comfortable in NY, maybe it was a bit too  structured? Maybe there  was too much  pressure, “let’s be honest” he was wearing  beer softball laundry  yesterday, so how much pressure is there in Pittsburgh unless you’re wearing  Steelers laundry?

The M & M Boys

For $25.5M less, the Yanks got 6 innings, 7 hits, 2 runs, 2 BB’s, 5 K’s, 0 HR’s, 92/59 pitches from Jordan Montgomery

And so  far it was Montgomery’s worst outing of the three he’s pitched….And the Yanks still had a shot to  win had the offense sans Ellsbury,  done anything off of 3 Pittsburgh pitchers

monty

Montgomery wasn’t sharp, his tempo was non existent, and he was the poster boy for grinding an outing.. The Silver Lining was him going 6 innings, allowing only the two  runs, despite him not feeling particularly comfortable

He did manage 14 misses and 6 K’s, and it’s good to have a 5 pitch  arsenal, maybe one of the pitches works ?

Monty

What  we saw is what we got in the first  inning, under 50% strike %.. He gave up  a walk and two  singles but only 1 run on a sac fly..

He stranded a 1 out triple in the 2nd, a walk and a double made it 2-0 in the 3rd,  he erased a lead off single in the 4th  with  a Stewart DP, and a Nova punch out, welcome home boys..

He erased a 1 out single in the 5th  when McCutchen grounded into 5-4-3 DP, and he finished off his day  by inducing  a 3rd DP after a lead off single, a Freeze punch out and a line drive to 3rd base doubling Polanco off 1st

Sloppy but effective, see you 5 days Jordo

Mitchell loaded the bases in the 7th, but escaped, then threw a quick  1-2-3 8th for

2 innings, 1 hit, no  runs, 2 BB’s, 2 K’s

Hit and Run

the only run to  cross the plate was an Ellsbury 7th inning bomb to  right field, das it..

The Yanks raised a little bit of Hell in the 4th but 2 singles were snuffed out by a Judge DP..

They  created a stir in the 8th off Danny Hudson, but Castro  whiffed with the bases juiced

Carter singled to shallow left. 1 2
Gardner walked, Carter to second. 1 2
Kozma ran for Carter. 1 2
Headley popped out to shortstop. 1 2
Kozma to third on wild pitch by Hudson. 1 2
Castro struck out swinging.

Closer Tony Watson, and 2nd baseman Harrison almost crumbled Pittsburgh’s House of Cards in the 9th  but Hicks was punched out and Kozma grounded out with the bases loaded…

Watson relieved Hudson. 1 2

Ellsbury lined out to first. 1 2
Judge singled to right center. 1 2
Holliday hit for Mitchell. 1 2
Holliday walked, Judge to second. 1 2
Torreyes grounded into fielder’s choice to second, Judge to third, Holliday safe at second on error by second baseman Harrison. 1 2
Hicks struck out swinging. 1 2
Kozma grounded into fielder’s choice to third, Torreyes out at second. 1 2

So  the  Yankees Offense has the distinction of wearing the Goat Horns to Boston.. The Bombers play 6 straight vs the AL East Iron,  starting on Tuesday night…

Boston for 3 at Fenway, and back to  the Bronx vs the Orioles

Worst BA w/Bases Loaded, Active Players (min. 25 AB):

    Adam Rosales .063
    Aaron Hicks .074
    Clayton Kershaw .080

    Katie Sharp‏ @ktsharp

Hicks now 2-27 (.074) with bases loaded in his career.

Batters are 0-for 8 w/ RISP vs Bryan Mitchell this season.

Jacoby Ellsbury’s 24-game on-base streak is the longest active streak in MLB.

  2. Lets say a prayer for

Greg Bird….. who pretty much comes to the plate with two strikes on him.. Soon Girardi is gonna call him Birdie Two Strikes

5 for 48 .104 .204 .229 .433… yesterday was a good day he hit a very hard line drive to Nova, and didn’t strike out so it was a skewed 0-3 lol

hopefully he’s in the line-up on Tuesday when probably Porcello pitches… If he gets some hits will Formula Joe bench him vs Sale and Pomeranz, of course he will Carter got another hit yesterday

  3. Anyone hear Kay and LaGrecca talking about smoking pot to see what the big deal is about?
In response to some stupid college football player who blew his draft pick.
    Wow are they dumb.
