Happy Holliday From Tanaka

Greetings From TitleTown

Wednesday Night  #HalCare’s Bambinos erased the AL Chalk Boston Red Sox 3-1, thanks in part to Severino, Judge, Betances, and Bird leading the charge..

On Thursday night, the Yankees Old Guard took over the lookout, and they  were instrumental in completing a 2 game sweep by burying the TitleTown Dead Sox   3-0  in our favorite graveyard, Pin Drop Park..

The blessing arrived  behind a complete game pitching clinic by Nibbles Tanaka, and a slump busting  night from Matt Happy Holliday

What made the whole evening extra special, Tanaka and his helpers  bested the game’s best, Boston’s prospect expensive secret weapon, Chris Sale..

Don’t touch  the remote, there was nothing wrong with the volume button on your device, that my friends was the inimitable sound of  a pin drop at Fenway Park…….

The Red Sox and their smarmy media might have been waiting for the Headliner Cubs to come to  town, but now they  can  celebrate their big weekend knowing the mid-week opening act just kicked their ass..

The marquee was Sale, before the season  even  started I had every Sale game going to Boston, I did reserve a spot for the Yanks to steal a few, late in games  like  they used to  do in the El Pollo Martinez era, but for the most part, from my foggy vantage point,  Sale was untouchable..

No More Juice

Tanaka was great, I think  we’ve seen this Tanaka before, but Larry the Stable Guy  said, no, this was the best  he’s ever seen from his Ace..

“I have seen him good a lot, but one through nine and a complete-game shutout, yeah,’’ pitching coach Larry Rothschild said when asked if it was the best he has seen Tanaka.

Of course in Boston, Tanaka is nothing but a foot note, just  another pitcher who held The Sox’ anemic offense off the board…What  everybody suspected about Boston’s 2017 squad but wouldn’t say it was signified by Xander Bogaerts after Tanaka’s 3 hit gem

“What’s been different?” Bogaerts said, the star shortstop repeating the end of a question comparing the first 21 games of this season to last year. “I mean, David’s not here. He’s definitely one of the huge parts of our team for the year that I’ve been here. We definitely miss him.”

Sale of course took  all  the blame for the loss, and he picked the 9th inning when he no longer had 97 to  rely on, and the Old Bombers took him apart one hit at  a time, like Cassius  Clay took apart Sonny Liston

Meanwhile, Sale was dominant for the first eight innings before allowing three straight singles to open the ninth, at which point he was removed from the game. Sale’s lack of run support in his first five starts for Boston has been a troubling trend. In Sale’s 37 2/3 innings, the Red Sox have scored a total of four runs.

“No, the only frustration would be toward myself,” Sale said. “I know what I need to do, and I just need to be better at it.”

Oh Well have fun kissing the Cubs ass all  week-end boys…

Tanaka was the main component in this surprising win, we’ve seen him dominate the bottom of the strike zone before, but he hadn’t done it this year since Spring Training..

Here’s a chart you may  run into ..  I grabbed it from Mikey 2 Chins ..

It looks like a few 4 seamer’s leaked above the strike zone but for the most part Tanaka was an extreme worm killer last night

Tanaka faced 29 batters and only nine hit the ball out of the infield. He retired the final 14 batters he faced (on 39 pitches!), and the Red Sox had only one runner make it as far as second base. That’s all. Hanley Ramirez singled in the second inning and moved to second on Mitch Moreland’s ground ball. He was stranded there. The Red Sox never had a runner make it to third base.

Tanaka faced 29 batters he got ahead in the count on 21 of them, the first  inning withstanding.. He started the game going 0-3 vs Pedroia before inducing  the DonB’s favorite midget to hit an innocuous ground ball  out, and the white  wash  was on..

The Cafeteria Lady smoked a lead off single in the 2nd inning but he and his golden locks died on the vine.. Tanaka got the next  8 batters in a row before Ramirez singled again with 2 outs in the 4th, but  Goldie Locks was once again left stranded

Bogaerts led off the 5th  with  a single but Bradley bounced into  a nifty 3-6-3 DP.. A surprising occurrence  since Patches Carter was manning the first base pillow.

The last 12 Red Sox floundered their way  to  the 27th out.. 7 of the 12 outs were ground balls, 2 were swinging strike outs, 2 were fly balls, and 1 was a pop  to  3rd base….Das it..

“I enjoy the competition,” Tanaka said through an interpreter. “I think a lot of people thought with how well he was pitching up to this point, that probably Chris Sale had the upper hand. But I wanted to go in there and beat the odds.”

That’s very nice, now Nibbles can rekindle the opt out clause in his contract, he just  slayed MLB’s best  flavor of the month pitcher…

King the 3rd

Hit and Run

In the 4th inning the  Bombers knocked some wind out of the impenetrable Sale by “flicking and flicking” until  they plated a run..

Hicks led off with a single, a Headley ground ball  out, that  was interrupted by Sale, landed Hicks on 2nd base.. The play was  a nice trade off for the out considering it could have been  a DP had Sale either made the play or let his defense do  the heavy lifting

A passed ball put Hicks 90 feet from home with the slumping Holliday coming up

happy Holliday

Happy fought off 9 pitches of different variety before lacing a line-drive to Benintendi in left field for a Sac fly… It was all  Tanaka would need, but 2 insurance runs in the 9th made slamming the door shut a little easier on the nerve’s

Sale came out for the 9th inning with  103 pitches under his belt, 6 pitches later he was on his way  to  a shower

Hicks singled to center. 1 0
Headley singled to left, Hicks to second. 1 0
Holliday singled to left, Hicks scored, Headley to third, Holliday to second advancing on throw. 2 0
Hembree relieved Sale. 2 0
Gardner ran for Holliday. 2 0
Castro singled to left, Headley scored, Gardner to third. 3 0
Judge popped out to catcher. 3 0
Carter grounded into double play, third to second to first, Castro out at second. 3 0

Hicks jumped on the first  slider he saw for a single, Headley laid off a slider for a ball, fouled two  fast balls off, then slapped a single to  left field off another hittable slider..

Holliday knocked Sale out sending the first 81 MPH slider with no  bite to left field for an RBI Double.. Castro capped off the scoring at 3-0 beating head hunter Hembree with an RBI knock after Hembree knocked him off the plate a few pitches previous..

The picked up 9 hits, 2 each  from Torreyes, Holliday, Castro, and Hicks, and 1 from Headley

The Old Guard

RBI: Holliday 2 (10), Castro (14)
S: Ellsbury
SF: Holliday
GIDP: Carter 2
Yankees RISP: 2-6 (Holliday 1-1, Headley 0-1, Hicks 0-1, Carter 0-1, Castro 1-1, Judge 0-1)
Team LOB: 4
DP: 1 (Carter-Torreyes-Carter).

Yanks open a 3 game series vs first place Baltimore  with Sabathia, Pineda, and Montgomery toeing  the rubber

Ji-Man Choi ties it up, 3-3, with an RBI single to right. Choi is 2 for 2 tonight and has his average

    Choi Choi I’m the Boy
Is batting .357 playing 1st base for SWB

    Gardner doesn’t have an RBI
Hicks was a star in the Sale game why is Gardner playing lead Ellsbury off then you have 2 switch hitters
I get it he wants to get Gardner going but you wanna win

Doesn’t matter CoCo Puff with his 2nd stinker in a row
Wouldn’t mind seeing a 6 man rotation with Green up send Holder down
