We could have won a lot of schoolyard  basketball games with those three

Welcome Back Gary Sanchez

sanchez

Playing all nine innings at DH after catching seven innings the two previous nights, Sanchez was 2-for-5 with an RBI double in the RailRiders’ 5-3 loss to Lehigh Valley in Allentown, Pa.

Sanchez finished his three games in the International League batting .385 with a homer and two doubles in 13 at-bats.

The Sanbino  will join Hank Aaron Judge tonight in Chicago when  the Yanks visit America’s Team  the Chicago Cubs

Harper’s Bizarre

How would you like to grab the one that  got away, Gerrit Cole ?

The Yanks tried to draft him but he went to school instead, with the  Pirates in  suck mode,  In an article Today, John Harper’s bizarre  opines  the Bombers have the prospects to make a trade..

cole

Long story short, Noogsie, a few days ago, mentioned how much we miss Andrew Miller and how Exhibit A. Clint Red Thunder Frazier hasn’t exactly made us forget Andy from Cleveland..

The Millennial  Tweetuh is slashing .228 .278 .396 .674 at AAA SWB

Exhibit B in the Miller trade  Justis Sheffield is a 20 yr old lefty pitching to  a

3.28 ERA with  25 hits in 24 innings, 25 K’s 14 BB,  1.58 WHIP at Trenton AA.. His other peripherals are simply eye wash Re: this discussion

If we use Severino  as a template, he’s just  starting to  scratch  the surface as a MLB pitcher at the ripe old age of 23..

Sheffield hasn’t given us any indication he’ll be helping the varsity for the next 3 years, and his projection FWIW, is a #3 rotation piece..

Harper opines if the Yanks had swung the deal  for Chris Sale, juxtaposed to how well  the offense has performed we’d win the World Series… Sounds good,  except the Yanks would have the big bulls eye on their back  and not Boston, and the Angry Cousins aren’t exactly wearing it so well …

Plus who knew Judge would morph into Babe Bonds Jeter?   Despite how much  fun the last  35 days have been, it’s probably too early to start writing Hall of Fame speeches, but it’s a hell of a lot of fun to  dream after being bored to  tears by this team since 2013..

Harper’s undisclosed source mentioned Sanchez and Kaprielian  would have been the Sale  price, so  at the time we know that  was never happening with Sanchez most likely  the deal  breaker ..

The same executive offered an interesting idea: Frazier and Justus Sheffield, the top two prospects the Yankees received from the Indians in the Andrew Miller trade last year.

Cole’s 2017 Game logs

Despite Harper raving about the Pirate  NL hurler, Cole hasn’t quite been the same since his 2015 coming out party…Getting Cole is not like Boston trading for Sale who is a sure bet… Despite his weird mechanics, the Boston tooth pick  turned sideways has never had a major injury…

Cole’s had a few decent outings, and 1 monster 7 inning, 2 hit, 1 run game vs the Cubs on April 25th.. He’s 26, he’ll be 27 in September, he’s  is under team control until  2019

ML service: 3.111 yr’s / 1 year/$3.75M (2017)
re-signed by Pittsburgh 1/13/17 (avoided arbitration)

5 days ago Ball Buster Olney had some pitchers who  could be deadline acquisitions, Cole was on that list,

Gerrit Cole is also a Boras client, and since “there is a wide expectation” that Cole won’t stay with the Pirates when his current deal is up after 2019, the righty could be a deadline chip. Olney writes that some teams felt Pittsburgh was even willing to listen to offers for Cole last year. With two-plus years of team control left, Cole could well be the most sought-after name on the market if the Bucs indeed made him available, though Cole also has a fairly checkered injury history over the last three years. The right-hander has a 3.60 ERA, 8.1 K/9, 4.5 K/BB rate, and 47.1% grounder rate through 30 innings this season. Dealing Cole wouldn’t necessarily indicate a rebuild for the Pirates, as the team could seek to gain some MLB-ready young talent that could help them make a quick rebound in 2018.

Maybe Cashman  should hang onto Frazier and Sheffield, pay  closer attention  to Jose Quintana who has already  proven he can be a successful AL pitcher, and after a slow start this season,  is beginning to pitch  to the back of his baseball  card

Harper mentions other potential deadline pitchers but feels Cole is the best bet now and long term?

Here’s one thought John, when Cole becomes a free agent and Scott Boras is looking for substantial  value  for his client not only in dollars but in years, Quintana’s contract will just be kicking into it’s team  friendly options

17:$6M, 18:$8.35M, 19:$10.5M club option ($1M buyout), 20:$10.5M club option ($1M buyout)

It’s all  about the prospect cost, but at  the moment Frazier, Sheffield, and Mateo if Mateo  can pick it up isn’t a bad starting point if indeed the Bombers go  shopping for pitching ?

This and That

In the 21 games Gary Sanchez missed, the #Yankees went 16-5 with 6.2 runs per game and a 3.46 team ERA

The Bombers lead the AL in

OBP, Slug, OPS,

AB/HR  (20.4)

The league average in how many AB’s before a HR is 31.1, Boston is last 52, the Giants are  MLB worst 55.1.. The Yanks are MLB’s 2nd to  the Brewers, 20.1 by percentage points

they’re 2nd in BA..

Gleyber Torres singled in his first AB, btw. Since coming off the DL Fri he’s 10-21 w 1 HR, 2 2B, 3 BB, 1 SB, 6 R, 6 RBI, K’d once #Yankees

Yanks vs Cubs

Cubs are coming off a 13 inning win vs the Phil’s good time to kick them when they’re down if Pineda can be the Big Mike variety this afternoon

  1. Just researching this morning some stuff about Yankee prospects—One bust is Cito Culver–a 2010 first round pick from Rochester, NY. A shortstop with a pretty low .200 career minor league average with more strikeouts than hits over his total minor league career. And more strikeout than games played, with very little power.
Clint Frazier is young–21–but still has not done a whole helluva lot. He strikes out a lot, doesn’t hit for average, but seems to have raw skills. Cashman praises his bat speed. Reverse instant mush–he hit a homer and a double last night for Scranton.
And for Judge—this is like having 16 at the Blackjack table–taking a card and getting a 5, at which point the dealer has 20. Pay the man.
Judge was a first round supplemental pick ( 33rd overall) as compensation for the Indians signing Nick Swisher. Judge was adopted when he was one day old, only knows who is adopted parents are and has an adopted brother. He credits his adopted parents, who are both school teachers, with raising him the right way–to be humble, work hard, and respect others. What a great story

    • hey Noogsie, great stuff, I hadn’t done any research on Judge so this is all new too me thanks….

      So he was adopted wow,

Frazier is good currency for Cashman, he’s a bit of a knucklehead, Suzyn Waldman kinda threw him under the bus with that rant about him wanting #7, and he’s a tweetuh star for sure, plus the hair ordeal, so I’m not so sure he’s a Steinbrenner fav… If he starts to rake we have good trade bait, if that’s what they want to do

Pitchers all get hurt so pick your poison Sheffield could go down Cole and quintana could go down look what a mess Price has been up in Boston, $217M for that, they’re partying he gets back pitches good then opts out of the last 4 yr’s $127M

Funny you mention Culver, and I wasn’t aware he was from Rochester, he’s been a bust, but he’s blasted a shit load of HR’s over the last week, which is really crazy…. I wonder if we should expect a piss test soon?

Just lifted his page he’s hit 5 HR’s since April 27th, and until his last game he was on a 6 game tear

  2. We would have made it if Shark Tank was in business back when we invented Moose Armor, if we get out in front of the crowd we should market the Judge Crash helmet, that first 0-18 with 9 K’s is gonna have a lot of kids jumping off tall buildings

The rest of us have already taken swan dives in to the empty cement pond over NYY prospects so we’re immune

I think if he brought back the Zimmer helmet, maybe just stamp #99 on it with a chin strap, paint them blue we’re good to go

The best case scenario is we never have to use them, the worst case scenario we get to go on Shark Tank

  3. WFAN probably doesn’t care because Mikey 3 times 7 is on the back 9 of his contract and ratings are ratings even if 75% of the calls are prank and it makes the station a joke and Francesa an even bigger joke

The funny part Francesa thinks he gets ratings because he’s knowledgeable, but “lets be honest” he gets ratings because as he points out talk radio it’s better when things go wrong, and nothing is more wrong then Francesa thinking he has every sport, every socio political situation, every current event all figurerd out and at his fingertips

thanks too the internet he does have it at his finger tips, but when he tries to act the expert, it’s the perfect storm, and comedy at it’s purest form

there will be a big hole in our lives when this dolt leaves the air waves in this format…We can only hope he goes viral with his podcasts..

  4. Sal—poor Mikey. He’s going out looking like a version of the Gong Show
The Culver closer look is really something. With his recent five homers this week, that brings it to a total homer total of 32 since 2010,,Never more than 9 in any year. Aguess would be he feels there is n othing to lose as he would likely be pink slipped unless he does something all world. He sure as hell is blocked at shortstop.
Matinee game on a Friday is surely different, but then so is playing at Wrigley.
Chicago Psycho Joe will be psyched. At least one double switch, right? He never misses that opportunity

    • the gong show hahaha

lol yes one double switch…Funny you mention Axisa / Mikey 2 Chins must have been upset when Psycho Joe didn’t double switch with Betaces in game 2 vs the Pirates because I remember reading

“That brought up Betances’ spot since he was not double-switched into the game. Joe Girardi pinch-hit Chris Carter against the lefty Felipe Rivero”,

Fly on Mikey’s twitter account wall to see if he went nuts when that didn’t happen.. Probably at the time Carter was struggling I do remember the HR being a holy shit he hit a HR lol

  5. He moved Sanchez back to the 3 hole, looks like no definitive answers to Romine yet, I thought for a minute they were going with 6 in the pen but I think it hasn’t been announced if Romine is gonna make it..

  14. I think that when Gardzilla demolished that recycling bin the other day, he got rid of all the rolled up wet newspapers in it. He and Cito Culver are sharing the same P.O. Box someplace and they are both picking up what has been delivered there. What a win.
