Yanks Cubs Game 2

with 17 comments

Hopefully Otani is allowed to  play in the States soon, and hopefully the Yanks get him.. Having a pitcher who  can also double as a position player / pinch hitter / DH is a huge plus in this era of carrying 12 pitchers and 4 bench players

Especially if  3 or 4  of the 12 pitchers are 5 and fly guys, and 2 or 3 of them are just one  inning relievers… Throw in  carrying a Loogy, where a player hogs up  a roster spot but he’s only used as a 1 or 2 batter specialist..

That rivals giving an out away by executing the sac bunt, they  both  suck..

International  Draft

Here are the top  30 IFA players

Per Mikey 2 Chins the Yanks are hot on

the Yankees are expected to sign three of those top 30 players: Venezuelan OF Everson Pereira (No. 4 on the top 30), Dominican 2B Ronny Rojas (No. 11), and Venezuelan OF Roberto Chirinos (No. 16). You can read the scouting reports for free at the MLB.com link.

IFA opens July 2nd

The SanBangedUp

We all love the SanBino, but I have a red flag always flying half mast when  your best hitter is a catcher… That  position creates way  too many bumps and bruises, the catcher is always getting nicked up, last night Sanchez took one off the mask  and it had to put him on queer street

“It was because the foul ball hit me right in the middle (of the mask),” Sanchez said, via team translator Marlon Abreu. “So I didn’t want to move too fast. I wanted to just slow down and breathe in the air and then breathe out and focus.”

Be-careful son…

I don’t want to  start picking on Sanchez the way I picked on Bird, but is it the right move batting him  third, right off the bat?

Sanchez finished the 2016 starting on September 22nd,  going  4 for 35 with  1 HR

After a good Spring like Bird, that slump continued into  the 2017 campaign, where he’s now 3 for 24 that’s 7 for 69 over this time span…

Perhaps the pressure of  putting Bird and Sanchez in the two most prestigious spots in the line-up  right out of the gate was a bit much… ?

They  were wrong about Hank Judge, there was still  talk he was in competition  with Hicks with just  a few games left in ST, now look what he’s done..Who’s to  say  they’re not wrong about Sanchez and  Bird .. Greg Bird’s whole thing is still puzzling…

It took them  2 and a half weeks to  realize Bird was too hurt to  have decent hitting mechanics, or was it something else…?

Hank Aaron Judge earned his way  to  the 5 hole from batting 8th in the line-up, should Sanchez and Bird earn their way  to  the  top  of the order?

We have to  remember the Accountants want these kids in the line-up, it works in concert with  their Al Yankzeera hype machine, that’s all I’m trying to  say, are we putting too much  pressure on  both players?

Hank Judge came in through the back  door, Sanchez and Bird were inflicted with  the Francesa curse, that’s a lot trickier to  fix  then a bone bruise or a muscle strain….

Francesa Jinx is deadly, the  jinx casualty list might be the Mother of All lists

Pineda running the bases yesterday was a drunk at the cocktail party scenario

  3. The other night in the booth, Kay & Co were discussing the meetings that went on at the end of ST regarding whether to give the right field job to Hicks or Hank Aaron Judge. Some in the organization wanted Hicks, some wanted Judge.
Hal, early on, wanted Judge. Arod, who was invited to attend these meetings, spoke up at the end. He was adamant about giving the job to Judge. He said he saw something that convinced him that, giving the job to Judge, that this kid needs AB’s in the Majors & that the Yanks will be rewarded with something special. I believe Denbo was also in these meetings & concurred with Arod. Seems like, so far, they made the right decision, huh?

In regards to Bird & the Sanbino, I’m preaching
patience. I believe Bird, trying to play through a sore ankle has messed him up at the plate. Keep him out until he’s 100% healthy & then let him fly (excuse the pun).
I’m aware the Sanbino was in a funk to end last year, but I ain’t worried at all. This kid is going to be AMAZING! Has all the tools for greatness. But, Sal brings up a good point. Should the Yanks have started him back lower in the lineup to ease the pressure of coming back & doing great things from the get go? I agree. With the way the Yanks have been mashing the ball, his immediate offensive impact wasn’t needed as some sort of a life saver for a feeble lineup. That said, they could’ve put less pressure on his return, by starting him lower in the lineup & letting him get his feet wet first, before asking him to be s major contributor based on his place in the order.
In spite of all that, I think both will be fine as they get more reps going forward.

  5. Bryan Hoch @BryanHoch
This is kinda cool from @statcast – @AChapman_105 threw 31 changeups last year (3.2% of pitches). He’s already thrown 32 in 2017. (17.3%)

  12. So great to see outstanding games coming from so many different players. These guys feed off one another. Layne can leave anytime, though.
On a hawse note—as reported on Funtime Twitter–Mikey’s horse expert trashed the Kentucky Derby winner on Thursday. He basically said he had no chance to win. Mikey is uncanny. Not that he needs help with mushing, but no one does it better. The hawse that was picked has just made the turn and is at the top of the stretch.
