Yanks Sweep Cubs

Yanks 5 Cubs 4

There was no better place then Chicago’s Wrigley Field for the Bombers and Cubs to play, in essence two  games, always #1 on Ernie Bank’s bucket list..

The Bombers  prevailed after the 18 inning, 6:05 hour affair, finally grinded to  a halt in the Wee Wee hours of Monday morning

An  amazing 18 inning game that  started with the Bombers touching old nemesis Jon Lester for a run in the first  inning when Hicks, Holliday and Castro teamed up  for a 1-0 lead.

Lester tamed the Bombers from the 2nd inning until  the 7th giving them nothing but a Hicks walk in the 3rd inning

Luis Severino started for the Yanks and was back to being  fantastic, his only blip was a Baez HR in the 3rd that  tied the game 1-1

7.0 innings, 4 hits, 1 run, 1 BB, 9 K’s 1 HR, 111-75 pitches  3.40 ERA

In the 7th a Kris Bryant throwing error allowed Castro  to  reach 2nd base. Hank Aaron Judge drove him home with  a majestic triple to  center field.. John Jay  looked dazed and confused chasing it,  so  maybe the wind got it.. It landed safe and sound and the Bombers led 2-1..

Unfortunately they couldn’t plate Judge from 3rd base with no outs and that  came back to temporarily  bite them..

The Yanks broke it open in the 8th when Gardner singled and Ellsbury buried it 370 feet to right field.. The ESPN cameras caught Girardi  and Ellsbury jawing at  each other but it was later washed out to  sea by Bryan Hoch

Bryan Hoch‏Verified account @BryanHoch

Girardi said he was making sure Ellsbury’s elbow felt OK with the double switch coming up.

ShotGun Chapman was gifted a 4-1 lead, but he promptly blew it,  so he gets  his first Sonny in the Toll Booth

0.2 innings, 3 hits, 3 runs, 2 BB, 2 K’s 36-20 pitches

Chappy threw all clothes line fast balls, and sliders with no  depth, it was closer to picking daisy’s  then picking  cotton for the Cub hitters..

The bull pen sans Chappy gets the Goose Feather, and after 18 innings

Betances  Clippard, Sheriff Warren, Jon Holder, and Chicken Shreve  compiled

10.1 innings, 4 hits, no  runs, got to  raise the flag

pitchers

Little Hank Aaron Hicks led off the 18th  with  a bunt, Torreyes sacrificed him to  3rd base, and Starlin Castro hit a go-ahead  fielders choice giving the the Bombers  a 5-4 lead

Chicken Shreve pitching his 3rd inning walked Bryant and IP’d Rizzo, but with Maddon outs of position players Hendricks pinch hit for Strop and  advantage Shreve prevailed

  1. Holder and Shreve gained some stripes last night, we’ll see if that carries over once they get back from Scranton
Wonder who they bring up? and I wonder if this marks the end of Penny Layme once Chicken-Shreve gets back?

Once the Yanks lost Big Hank and Holliday I thought they might get in trouble if it got tied up…. I can’t believe they won or got out of the 12th inning Rizzo on 3rd 1 out

  2. I honestly did not expect a win after the Cubbies tied it up in the 9th. A big momentum builder to win it after playing another 9 innings.
Still…my beef–I hate double switches and Joey’s fascination with them. I hate them most when they cause the most feared hitter in the league right now to take a seat and then not be available in a tied up extra inning game.
They are on a great roll. so the move will be overlooked. That might not be the case going forward

    • hey noogsie insane is all I can say …. And yes the win will make Francesa hang up on every caller who doubts psycho joe’s moves, but he’s dangerous

I never thought they could win that game never ……I hear you

  3. Call me crazy, but I stayed up for the whole ball of wax. Not the smartest thing I’ve ever done. Considering that I had to get up in a few small hours. Isn’t that a line from a Sinatra album? ” In The Wee Small Hours Of The Morning”, I believe it was. My mom was a huge Sinatra fan, so that’s how I know this stuff.

Tremendous effort by the bullpen last night! Inning after inning, their work was stellar! I kept thinking, somebody’s gonna have to jack one out, but it never happened. It took Little Hank Aaron Hicks, with a spectacular bunt to get things started. Hicks, has been nothing short than fantastic throughout the short campaign.

During the early part of the game, I was watching & doing work at the same time. And somehow I missed the removal of Judge from the contest. How & why did that happen??? That move must’ve elicited a Grrrr…. from the great Don B!!

All things considered, it was a tremendous weekend in the Windy City against the World Champs, & beating Pompus Joe Madden makes it all the more sweeter. That guy can’t lose to the Yanks enough.

    • a scones yes the ESPN announcers were in their own world so things were like they normally are when you listen to Ma and Pa

great series, now if Tanaka and his interrupter who’ve been in Cincy since yesterday didn’t find an opium den on the Kentucky border he should be well rested.. Maybe Big Hank getting yanked will have him rested too, who knows

crazy game never thought they’d pull it out tremendous..

    • donny the dumbest thing in sports is having the DH in one league and not in the other, Grrr is right

Joe Maddon lost his genius card in that big winnebago he was showing off last night.. He’ll find it again as soon as Rizzo, Russell, Baez, Heyward, and Bryant start to hit, and his starters get out of first innings without coughing up runs…….. Genius just doesn’t come when you snap your finger, it’s a process, like one of Maddon’s fine wine’s breathing

  6. Francesa had the car warmed up ready to take Harvey to his HOF induction speech.. another casualty of the Francesa Curse, more deadly then a Black Mamba bite

  7. It’s gonna take divine intervention to bring Bird back after that day Francesa anointed him Central Casting, his first question to the pundit they had paid to be on his show was who was gonna be the bigger star Sanchez or Bird, Franny was leaning heavy on the Bird, poor kid

  9. Breaking News!!!!!
Nibbles Tanaka & his interrupter, were found last night in an All-Night Acupunture den with a guaranteed happy ending, in the seedy side of Cincinnati. Details are sketchy at this point, Tanaka was found incoherent at the time immediately following his happy ending.

  10. Chad Green was brought up and Refsnyder sent down-he shouldn’t have screwed up the grounder on Saturday. I only made 15 innings, getting old. The sweep was made sweeter at the expense of our old pal Maddon,a true shit house genius, now with a beard and rv. The broadcast was horrible,I hate espn,Aaron Boone needs to play basketball and vanish again. The bad news is next Sunday the game they retire Jeters number is also on espn!! OY!!!! Cannot believe YES sold out, they never retire numbers at night.
