10-4, Over and Out

with 13 comments

The Yanks continued barnstorming through the Midwest like the old Indianapolis Clowns, kicking the BeJesus out of the Cincinnati’s Little Dead Machine 10-4

The Bombers rolled into  town at 5:30 AM, got to  work  tired, we all know what going to  work tired is in our professions…In this job  unless Mickey, Whitey, Moose#14, Hank, Billy, and the boys were walking through that  door, coming to work with  very little sleep didn’t seem like good odds….

But

There is something about this 2017 Bomber team that has clicked from the 6th game of the season until last night’s pummeling of the NL Central leaders, and when Dr Melfi gets here we’ll ask her what it is…

The Yanks are 20-5 in that span of games, 21-9 overall, they’ve now won  6 in a row, 8 of their last 10 and are 0.5 ahead of the O’s for first place..

Momentum is Facing A Former Yankees Prospect

Outside of few black  beauty’s, the next best thing you can  do to wake up  tired players is face a former NY Yankee pitching prospect, and Rookie Davis was up  for the task

4.1 innings, 7 hits, 5 runs,  4 earned, 3 BB’s, 4 K’s,   91-55 pitches

The Bombers gave him no time to  “pay then back” by putting up  a 3 spot in the first inning

An error, a walk and 3 singles had the Bombers up 3-0

The bottom of the order plated a run in the 2nd… Torreyes single, Tanaka sac bunt, Little Hank Hicks RBI single

I’ve seen snapping turtles cover a half mile creek bank faster then Davis was delivering pitches but despite a slow tempo  and two more base on balls, he managed to keep  the Yanks at 4-1 until  the 5th

Holliday and Ellsbury singled knocking Davis out, Sanchez  singled off Brice, Gregorius hit a sac fly, 5-1

Drew Storen  the one time Nats closer hit three batters, walked another one, and coughed up  a Torreyes  RBI single.. The Headley HBP and the Torreyes knock made it a 7-2 lead in the 7th..

SanBino was thrown out at  the plate by 20 feet so not sure what Espada was thinking unless they  didn’t want Tanaka to bat to  save him for his last inning of work?…Something there didn’t add up, looks bad for Sanchez he had a rough night on the pillows..

Yanks blew it open with 3 runs in the 8th after Castro pinch hit a single, Gardzilla hit his 6th Tater, a 2 run 413 foot blast to right field, and Happy Holliday drilled an  absolute 420 foot Bomb to dead central.. Ma and Pa Pinstripe was reeling and rockin the chorus line  as the Yanks capped off the 10-4 shellacking

Ta-Not-Ka

Tanaka got away  with the Yankees offense outhitting his pedestrian outing..

7.0 innings, 10 hits, 4 runs,  3 earned runs,  1 BB, 6 K’s,  1HR, 112-77 pitches, 4.36 ERA

Nibbles pitched to  the scoreboard, and he’ll sneak out of town with a W, but he looked disturbed for most of the night.. He especially looked anxious in the 7th inning when after a visit from Larry the Stable Guy, the very next 86 MPH splitter to Joey Votto landed on a Riverboat…. A mammoth 415 foot Two Run HR, to make the game a brief uncomfortable 7-4

mikeaxisa

Not That  there is anything wrong with that, but Mikey 2 Chins might be in love.. A very tender shout out to Joey Votto in one of his re-caps

a two-run home run by the dreamy Joey Votto

Anyway

The Stable Guy  was no doubt begging Tanaka to  finish off the 7th so Chad Green  could pick  up  the slack in the 8th with Joey DayCare micro-managing his day’s R&R itinerary..?

Thankfully Barrett Astin coughed up  3 runs and 4 hits in the bottom of the 7th and it was  garbage clean-up  detail  for Clippard in the 8th and the always shaky mop, Penny Layne in the 9th

Y's pitchers

Hit and Run

The Bombers picked up  13 hits.. The SanBino had 3 singles, Little Hank, Holliday and Torreyes  had two hits apiece…Gardzilla, Ellsbury, Castro and Gregorius had one hit each.. Gardzilla and Holliday  had HR’s

BATTING
HR: Gardner (6, 8th inning off Astin 1 on, 0 Out); Holliday (6, 8th inning off Astin 0 on, 1 Out)
RBI: Sánchez 2 (5), Gregorius 2 (7), Hicks (16), Headley (12), Torreyes (14), Gardner 2 (12), Holliday (19)
S: Tanaka
SF: Gregorius
2-out RBI: Hicks, Headley, Torreyes
GIDP: Headley
Yankees RISP: 5-16 (Sánchez 2-2, Headley 0-3, Holliday 0-1, Gregorius 1-4, Torreyes 1-2, Hicks 1-1, Romine 0-1, Ellsbury 0-1, Gardner 0-1)
Team LOB: 11
FIELDING
E: Holliday (1, catch); Headley (7, ground ball)
DP: 4 (Headley-Torreyes-Holliday, Gregorius-Holliday, Holliday-Gregorius, Gregorius-Romine).

Sabathia vs Adleman

Patches Carter is the only present Bomber to  face this guy, so the Binder might nix Holliday  at  first  base.. Hopefully that’s not the case we’d rather see Holliday up at  bat then Patches.. Maybe Holliday  can get his first base chops together and they  can slip him in there once in a while…?

  1. might be a good excuse to give Headley a few days off.. instead of sitting the red hot Little Hank how about give Head a few days off let Torreyes play 3rd base ?

Dr Girardi might think different, he’s got a hot hand and with 6 in a row he might be right, but the eye test looks like Headley just checked into the penthouse at Pumpkin Towers, and Little Hank wants to keep driving toward that All Star bid

  2. Marchand gives Little Hank a well deserved pat… ARod said he looked like Bernie Williams in one of the games in Chicago… If Hicks has found what the Twins were looking for and Cashman gambled on then we’re in high cotton….

    good stuff right here

  3. The Rebirth or initial birth) of Gardzilla—Last year—7 homers total—2 in April, 3 in May–none in June and 2 in July. His last homer was July 30 and then nothing the rest of the year.
This year—nothing and no runs batted in ( as Sal reported) until the last few days of April when—bombs away. 6 taters since then, including a tape measure shot last night.
What gives??? Just maybe with Judge, Ellsbury and Hicksey going well, Gardzilla felt the pressure to step up his game. Overnight, he went from averaging 160 in a mixed bowling league to knocking the shit out of Johnny Petragilia

    • hey noogsie hahahaha he went from averaging 160 in a mixed bowling league to knocking the shit out of Johnny Petragilia

It’s amazing, but then again he’s gone off before, briefly I might add, that’s when you named him Gardzilla hahaha a tremendous name BTW

I think you may have nailed it, having all this young talent coming up, the old guys started to maybe really focus and really get in shape, they all have stepped it up

The only guy who still looks like a county highway worker is Carter, but maybe that’s just his slow easy way
although he went 0 for Chicago 0-9, and has a .594 OPS, NG for a supposed slugger

Hopefully he picks it up if Bird comes back who goes? Carter is the only dog not hunting at the moment

  4. This……has been some opening act. 21-9 to start the season is a helluva way to keep away the Broadway critics. There’s an energy here I haven’t seen in a long time. This could be a really fun summer!
As to Sal’s musings on tonight’s lineup. I heard Joey DayCare, in the post game presser, that tonight will bring some changes. After a few days at 1st, he’s gonna give Happy Holliday a blow & have Patches at 1st. Also, Headless, who last night looked to be on Queer Street, will get the night off & Torreyes will play 3rd.
I think the Yanks need to send Espada to the optometrist. Sending the SanBino home looked like he got on a local instead of the express. Jeez! He was out by 30 feet!

  5. http://www.espn.com/mlb/player/gamelog/_/id/33150/masahiro-tanaka

Tanaka had 5 days rest for last night’s game, he should have been better, which he was after starting his Toron to game on 4 days rest

His best outing came after 7 days rest vs Boston, he also had a good outing on 5 days rest vs the CHW.. He had a bad outing on 6 days rest which should be his optimum based on what he did in Japan

point, maybe none of that matters, maybe there is something to it

  9. They keep winnng we have nothing to complain about!!!-lol Sanchez seems to have genetically inherited Posada’s base running instincts. Getting thrown out at 2nd was a real bad move,I think he got thrown out at the plate because Tanaka was on deck and there was no chance he was getting driven in,its also better Tanaka didn’t bat. In keeping with resting everyone,Holiday is taking a holiday tonight,Hicks is out,so is Headley. Its almost like watching the old days of the late 90’s-you just know they are going to win. I love it!!!

    • Hey Big D They keep winnng we have nothing to complain about!!! hahaha… So true, Joey Daycare keeps rolling 7’s so what the hell give everybody a day off … I just hope Francesa keeps with his barely a .500 team prediction, after that take they might win it all now lol

Heard Suzyn Waldman on the Mets Mutt’s show, she was really good they haven’t posted it yet on WFAN hopefully they do

  10. Mike Mazzeo @MazzNYDN
Quietly, Gary Sanchez has reached base in 11 of his last 13 plate appearances (six hits, four walks, one HBP) #Yankees
