The Old Bald Game

with 11 comments

The Yanks have a great  chance to  end their 10 series losing streak  at Camden Yards tonight after tying this 3 game series at  1-1  with an 8-3 victory on Tuesday in game 2

While we salute the Bald Bombers Matt Holliday  and Brett Gardner for poking 4 Dingers, 2 each, and the entire Bomber squad for smacked 14 hits, our collective hat  tips are reserved for  Chris Tillman  and former Met Logan Verrett..

The O’s pitching duo compiled

5.2 innings, 12 hits, 8 runs, 3 BB’s, 4 HR’s, igniting this can of whip ass the Yanks laid on  the Camden Mewl Buck Showalter’s Orioles

Tillman has a 9.00 ERA in the first inning this season and has a career 5.15 ERA in the frame, which is the highest for any inning in his career.

Luis Severino piled on the victory with an excellent 6.1 innings, 7 hits, 1 run, 1 BB, 8 K’s while 4 of his BFF’s helped navigate the final 8 outs for the Win..

“Last year, I was missing a lot of spots with my fastball,” Severino said. “This year, I feel comfortable with everything; my changeup, my fastball command is good, my slider is great.”

Severino had all  3 of his pitches working and that’s hard to  negotiate per Mark Trumbo..

“He got ahead all night,” Trumbo said. “His fastball and slider were tough and he was able to mix in his changeup, too. … When he can get those two really good pitches over and then throw in that change, it makes it tough as a hitter to pick and choose what to look for.”

Penny Layne actually pitched to  2 batters instead of his customary 1, he walked 1 and got an out, bravo Penny Layne!!!

Adam  the Sheriff Warren secured 1 out, Tyler Clippard was a real plow horse knocking off the last 4 outs, and only Bryan Mitchell 0.2 innings, 2 hits, 2 runs, 1 BB, 27 pitches, spit the bit

yanks pitch

Remember those fire drill  alarms in high school, well  the Yanks have one ringing for Mr Mitchell

Bryan Mitchell Last 4 Games
4.1 IP
9 R

18.69 ERA

Time for our Paint the Black  fav to grab the keys to Frankie Cervelli’s 1985 Oldsmobile presently residing at a parking garage in South Wilkes-Barre Pa, for a quick  tune up, or give him more work, maybe he can  shake off some rust

Mitchell last pitched on May 23, 7 days removed from last night’s debacle, so  maybe they keep him around, the alternatives are Luis Cessa or the Gidrool Pool.. This stretching out  starter depth Cashman had envisioned isn’t panning out, both Green  and Mitchell have bombed in their last varsity relief outings, and Cessa can’t seem to pitch his way off the farm…

Anyway  a great  win, Severino  was dink and dunked so his pitch count went up  quick, he took care of the O’s top of the order, ( Machado 3 K’s) it was the bottom  that  got to him, go  figure..

Severino had one big jam to  deal  with in the 2nd inning, but he escaped unscathed, he also hit a snag in the 6th  when  3 infield singles and a walk cost him his consecutive scoreless inning streak that  ended  at 17.2 innings.

He is 4-2 with a 2.93 ERA in 10 starts this season. He went 0-8 with an 8.50 ERA in 11 starts last season.

Again Thank You Chris Tillman

“I think it is more of an execution thing than it is arm strength. And mechanical, too,” Tillman said of his struggles. “That’s an easy excuse [to blame arm strength], but when you’re off mechanically, I feel like you’re out there trying to search and search and search to find the right one to make pitches, and it just kind of snowballed tonight. They came out hacking and never stopped.”

Tillman, who is 1-2 with a 5.87 ERA and just one quality start through five starts this season,

No better time then  the present to  sink  the O’s before Britton and  Jones get back, Machado and Davis wake up, and they  somehow fix their pitching…

Hit and Run

box

Refsynder was the only Bomber to go hitless, but they  all  reached base.. Carter came in as a defensive replacement which  shows you how far  the 1st base position has crashed, Bird and Austin can’t get here fast enough

Two  positions that  got hyped to  the max this winter  have not gotten untracked yet?

Yankees Catchers

Yankees first  baseman

The Yanks remained 3 games ahead of Boston who mugged some really bad White Sox pitching in Chicago last night.. The silver lining in that game was Chris Sale getting his ass kicked

5 innings, 10 hits 6 runs 5 earned.. The Punch  and Judy Red Sox hit 6 HR’s go  figure

the Whole 9

the Standings

Wednesday at Baltimore, 7:05 p.m. Masahiro Tanaka (5-4, 5.86 ERA) vs. Kevin Gausman (2-4, 6.17)

  1. hopefully the boys put their collective feets on the O’s neck tonight and end this losing streak, the O’s are ripe for the picking.. they got their 1 win, broke the slide now the law of averages should return to them losing another 7 in a row….

Tanaka and Romine, let’s see if it’s a match made in heaven for Nibbles….

3rd base is also on the down along with catcher and 1st base

    .230 .298 .348 .645

Catcher spot you can live with, rather see Sanchez get his game calling chops and defense together, the hitting will come once he figures out what’s wrong…

I hate seeing the kid frustrated, hopefully he doesn’t think he has to out perform Judge and the guys going Big Fly with regularity in May….

How long before Hicks takes that 2 hole and everybody slides down one…?

I like Gregorius behind Judge, I guess it’s good to keep Sanchez somewhere in between Holliday and Judge, moving him down further, there would be no protection, he’ll really never see any pitches… lots of pop ups at the moment, we need some intervention from Shag Singleton

As long as they’re winning Formula Joe might keep this line-up as is….?

  4. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple A)

The Columbus Clippers shutout Scranton on Tuesday, as five runs by the top of the fourth inning was enough to edge the RailRiders. Tyler Austin continued his hot-hitting by going 2-for-4 with a double, extending his hitting streak to four games. Tyler Webb was electric in two innings of relief. The southpaw tossed two scoreless, struck out four and faced just one batter over the minimum.

    Trenton Thunder (Double A)

The Thunder scored four unanswered runs to walk-off against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies 4-3. Mike Ford, Rashad Crawford and Thairo Estrada all singled in runs to propel the Thunder to victory. Ford collected two RBI’s, while Estrada’s lone run batted in won the game for his team in the bottom of the ninth. Miguel Andujar was impressive in his 2-for-4 effort. He scored a run and ripped a double. Matt Wotherspoon was perfect in his 1.1 innings in relief starter Domingo Acevedo. Cale Coshow earned the win after pitching two scoreless. He struck out and walked one while permitting a hit.

    Tampa Yankees (Single A Advanced)

A dominant start from starter Zack Littell gave the Tampa Yankees a deciding 6-1 victory over the Charlotte Stone Crabs. Littell went seven strong innings, tying his season high in strikeouts with eight. He permitted one run on five scattered hits and a walk. Littell has now pitched seven innings or more in three straight starts. Trey Amburgey slugged his fifth home run of the year on a two-run shot to right-center field in the bottom of the fourth. Nick Solak tripled home two, and came around on the second run-scoring wild pitch of the game in the eighth.

    Charleston RiverDogs (Single A)

Estevan Florial was the bright spot in Charleston’s 4-2 loss to the West Virginia Power. Florial went 2-for-3 with a triple, home run, walk, run scored and a run batted in. The home run was the team-leading sixth of the season. Brandon Wagner also collected two hits and a walk in the contest.

  6. Someone must have read the blog to get Refsnyder out of moth balls. Nice to pound the O’s in Baltimore for a change,it was almost like the glory days. I think Judge’s double off the 373 sign might have gone out at the Stadium-lol #18!!!!!-lol Yanks need to take the series tonight with Nibbles before heading to Toronto, everyone there is back and they suddenly have gotten hot.
