Beltway Bombed

with 10 comments

Don’t look now but the other shoe we feared would drop has entered the atmosphere and could be hitting the Mall on Rivera Avenue by Monday

The Yanks blew a golden opportunity to snap  their 10 game series losing streak at Camden Yards, but the O’s laid a can of ass whip on Masahiro Tanaka  Igawa,  in a 10-4 Beltway  beat  down

Combine the terrible effort by Tanaka, the un-clutch offense with Boston’s 4-1 win and the Bombers  head to Toronto hanging on to  a tenuous 2 game lead with a very very hot Blue Jays team looking primed to  stamp that market correction Complete

Phil Jackson has the Triangle Offense, Joe Girardi  has the R/L line-up  thing, neither work if your players aren’t Great.. Inserting a player mired in a .165 .211 .235 .446 May slump behind your best hitter who  gets on base 43% of the time is flat out Formula  Joe at his best.

Technically F-Joe was correct putting Headley behind Judge, with Gregorius out the bottom 4 were lined up based on their paychecks,  Headley, Torreyes, Romine, and RefsynderPick  your Poison

Tanaka was awarded his very own personal  catcher after resurrection Friday 5 days ago when he stymied the Oakland A’s.. The prevailing wisdom dictated Romine was better equipped to dress Nibbles in his under armor Superman tights, then Sanchez, and the numbers proved it….

Wipe that  conspiracy theory off the chalk board

Tanaka on 4 days rest was mugged from the first pitch  until he handed Joey Claps a fresh ball from the ump with 2 outs in the 6th after yet another helpless pummeling what  was a dormant offense

5.2 innings, 9 hits, 7 runs, 1 HR, 2 BB, 4 K’s, 9 GB, 12 FB, 103 pitches..

Forget the Pitch Fx, Brother Ray Charles could see his stuff was flatlined from the Seth Smith  single in the 1st inning, until Smith came up again in the 6th.. At that point Joey Claps gave Nibbles his ticket to Palookaville..

Tanaka had no life on the majority of his pitches, no “it looks like a strike but falls off the table” stuff.. No fastballs cutting, sliders sliding, splitters tilting down, just breaking pitches with no bite and predictable clothes line fast balls when he got behind in the count, which he did often

First-pitch strikes/Batters faced: Tanaka 14/27

Tanaka rolled off the wrong side of the bed on just  about half of the batters he faced, and it seemed like he was pitching from behind deep in counts often, 5 of the 9 hits were for loud extra bases

2B: Jones (6, Tanaka); Trumbo 2 (9, Gallegos, Tanaka); Hardy (6, Tanaka); Schoop (15, Tanaka); Joseph (7, Gallegos)
HR: Jones (9, 4th inning off Tanaka 2 on, 2 Out); Davis (11, 7th inning off Gallegos 1 on, 2 Out)

Astronomer Giovanny Gallegos allowed the O’s to firmly step on the Bombers neck with his sizzling performance

1.2 innings, 3 hits, 3 runs, 2 K’s,  1 HR

Kyle Holder came in at 9-4 and  allowed an inherited run to pile onto Gallegos ERA….

Hit and Runs,

but not when  they  were in scoring position

You could smell the Formaldehyde after the Bombers let Gausman off the hook in the first inning, leaving the bases filled with ducks and no points on the board had hurt more then stepping on a ten penny nail..

Gardner singled to center. 0 0
Hicks grounded into double play, shortstop to second to first, Gardner out at second. 0 0
Holliday walked. 0 0
Castro singled to center, Holliday to second. 0 0
Judge walked, Holliday to third, Castro to second. 0 0
Headley grounded out to second. 0 0

When Tanaka waltzed in as a dead man  walking, you knew that misstep was bound to bite back…

Down 4-0 the Yanks scratched a run across in the 4th

Castro grounded out to first. 0 4
Judge singled to center. 0 4
Headley walked, Judge to second. 0 4
Torreyes grounded into fielder’s choice to shortstop, Headley out at second, Judge to third, Judge scored, Torreyes to second on throwing error by second baseman Schoop. 1 4
Romine lined out to center. 1 4

Romine had a chance to make it a game but since the demotion his offense has taken a nose dive and there were no  heroics from the Romine Empire

The only other chance our heroes got to  rough  up  the mediocre Gausman was the 5th

Refsnyder singled to center. 1 7
Gardner grounded into fielder’s choice to second, Refsnyder out at second. 1 7
Hicks doubled to right, Gardner scored. 2 7
Holliday singled to center, Hicks scored. 3 7
Castro singled to center, Holliday to second. 3 7
Judge struck out swinging. 3 7
Headley walked, Holliday to third, Castro to second. 3 7
Torreyes grounded into fielder’s choice to third, Headley out at second. 3 7

Down 7-3, with  2 men on base and 2 runs in, Judge had the gavel in his hand but he whiffed on a 3-2 splitter with  some good tilt, or good enough to  fool the usually patient Rook

Torreyes couldn’t pull  a rabbit out of his hat, something he also did a lot of as a regular, but all he could do  was add to  the hideous 1 for 12 with RISP debacle

Two  singles, Torreyes and Romine, and a ground out, Gardner,  gave the Bombers their 4th  and final  run in the 8th, 9-4….

2B: Hicks (6, Gausman); Refsnyder (1, Gausman); Judge (7, Wright)
RBI: Hicks (24), Holliday (33), Gardner (25)
GIDP: Hicks
Yankees RISP: 1-12 (Headley 0-2, Holliday 1-2, Refsnyder 0-1, Torreyes 0-2, Romine 0-1, Hicks 0-2, Judge 0-1, Gardner 0-1)
Team LOB: 11
DP: 1 (Headley-Castro-Refsnyder).

  3. If they don’t get Masahiro Igawa straightened out, we’s in a heap a trouble!!!
In an already suspect rotation, our best pitcher has been an unmitigated disaster.
Over the long haul, with this, we can’t endure.
Might be time to send the great Don B, along with Luca Brasi, to “reason” with this guy.
You know, bring his brother into the court room from Japan. Let him know we mean business.
“Ya got a lovely family here, it would be a shame if something should befall them…….so I know you’re gonna do the right thing….”
