Rollin’ And Tumblin’

The Thrill Is Gone

The blues weren’t invented in Chicago, but they were certainly shaped there, Muddy Waters,  Howlin Wolf, Willie Dixon, Paul Butterfield, Baby Face Leroy, Dellin Betances, wait a minute, who’d Dellin Betances play  with?

The Bombers continued the Rollin and Tumblin portion of their season with their latest and maybe their greatest hit of the season, a 4-3 walk off loss to  the Chicago White Sox..

The lead singer belting out this newest hit, was none other then Astronaut Brillo Levine’s punching bag Dellin Betances, who was backed by his band,  neophyte Mingo German and the only 7th inning pitcher entire world, Blow Torch Clippard..

Of course the conductor for this Yankees Classic you’ll never see or hear on YES, was none other then the Igor Stravinsky of managers Tone Deaf Joe, who has managed to live by the famous words of his hero Mr Stravinski

“I  haven’t understood a bar of music in my life, but I have felt it. To listen is an effort, and just to hear is no merit. A duck hears also”

In the world  of abductive reasoning if it quacks like a duck it must be a duck and over the last  14 games, Tone Deaf Joe’s orchestra has Quacked in unison 11 of the 14 times they’ve hit the stage..

The sample size has increased to  the point where this subject’s habitual characteristics have appeared much  to  frequently to  ignore, and last night it once again reared it’s ugly head while simultaneously  hitting Rock Bottom

In what  has become a modern trend in MLB, the Chicago White Sox will undoubtably be  a team you won’t recognize by August  1st.. Over this past winter their MLB trendy fire sale started when Boston, the most desperate team in baseball, traded their  top  position player Yoan Moncada, and their top pitching prospect Michael Kopech for the AL’s best pitcher Chris Sale who had fallen out of favor with  the Chicago front office

For the first  time since the 1980’s the Yanks joined that market trend last year when they dumped ShotGun Chapman, Andrew Miller, Bubba McCann, Carlos Beltran, and  Ivan Nova, for prospects and Adam the Sheriff Warren..

To prove the Yanks meant business and were ready to  re-build / re-boot they  even ate over $30M DFA’ing Alex Rodriguez, they  also  released from their AAA affiliate  Adderall Nick Swisher in an effort to  clear the way for new blood in NY..

Unfortunately Tone Deaf Joe’s band of broken down troubadours have allowed the White Sox to showcase their wares over the first  two games of this 4 game affair…Last night the refuse to lose White Sox stormed back from a 3-1 deficit, like they  did the night before, only this time they exposed what  has now become a team  that might wanna start  to  think about joining them at the Bob Steele auction block in 4 weeks..

If we want a silver lining this morning after maybe the craziest /  most gut wrenching loss of the season, the Bombers despite their Tone Deaf leader have produced a few very exciting players, in Judge, Sanchez, Severino, Montgomery, Romine, and last night the newest member of  NY’s young core Tyler Wade made a brief cameo in the top of the 8th inning

Tone Deaf Joe didn’t start  the young man, he didn’t want to  expose him to that insidious and most deadly disease the LHP… So TDJ instead  started  Rob Refsynder a young man who  can’t hit LH or RH pitching

Once the deadly LHP was removed from the game, Wade was safe to enter the contest and all he did was start  the first  rally of the night inducing a 7 pitch  walk.. Seven batters later a band of core Yankees had grabbed the lead, in what  was the most gratifying comeback all  season

Wade walked.
Ellsbury reached on infield single to pitcher, Wade to second.
Headley struck out swinging.
Judge singled to center, Wade scored, Ellsbury to second.

Sánchez doubled to deep right center, Ellsbury and Judge scored.

Gregorius reached on infield single to pitcher, Sánchez to third.

Jennings relieved Kahnle.

Gardner lined out to shortstop.

3 RUNS, 4 HITS, 0 ERRORS

With  six outs to  go  you thought Betances and Chappy and lets go  home happy, they can  take this baby home and Boston pummeling  the Twins in Boston wouldn’t matter, the Division lead would still be in lock  step..

I must  confess when Mingo German was called on to hold the Sox to  the 3-1 deficit, I was shocked, but not upset, I wanted to  see the young man succeed in a High Leverage situation.. Unfortunately my Hollywood Movie morphed into a bargain bin special as German couldn’t find the plate with a seeing eye dog and he immediately walked the two batters he faced…

While German was imploding, Tone Deaf Joe summoned his worst and most combustable pitcher on the squad Tyler Clippard, and Clip  didn’t disappoint, he walked the first batter he faced, to load the bases..

Miraculously Clippard proceeded to strike out the next batter, induce an F/9 for the 2nd out, his Journey to the center of the Universe momentarily ended there when he walked Todd Frazier to plate a run and the score was now 3-2 Yanks

Clippard managed to punch out Matt Harley Davidson to  end the threat, but not before  5 foul  balls, 10 pitches and a  3 – 2 count kept you on the edge of your seat on the floor.. On the 11th pitch, Davidson sputtered to  a halt swinging through  a beautiful change-up to  end the most dramatic inning of the season…

Chase  Headley had a chance to  blow the game open in the top of the 9th but he was punched out flailing at  an un-hittable slider with  men on 2nd and third so it was up  to Betances to  shut the door with  the Bombers clinging onto  a slim 1 run lead

Betances made Clippard look like Rivera as he completely imploded after securing the first out on a ground ball…

Anderson grounded out to third.
Smith walked.
W. García ran for Smith.
Hanson walked, W. García to second.
Sánchez hit by pitch, W. García to third, Hanson to second.
Cabrera fouled out to left.
Abreu singled to shallow left, W. García and Hanson scored, Sánchez to second.

2 RUNS, 1 HITS, 0 ERRORS

Two walks and a HBP loaded the bases, and on a 2-1 count Betances spun a get me over curve ball with no  bite to Abreu and he found a hole in shallow left field for the game winning hit

Luis Severino

6 innings, 7 hits, 1 run, no BB’s. 12 K’s, 105-62 pitches was fantastic…

He had one bad inning, the third, when he gave up  2 singles and an RBI double by Abreu, which gave Chicago  a 1-0 lead that Quintana preserved for 6.1 innings…

Former Bomber Gidrool  Tony Swarzak who has excelled since getting away  from Tone Deaf Joe’s clutches, relieved Quintana with a man on and 1 out in the 7th..  He induced a nifty 4-6-3 DP off the bat of the usually very clutch Ronald Torreyes to  end a potential  threat

Not  worries the Yanks with Wade sparking the team took the lead the next inning…

Moving forward Severino needs to figure out how to get deeper into  games…

With a crumbling bull pen backing him just  about all  season, he  is NY’s best  option late in games… So better fast ball  command, more consistent tempo, and less pitches, more soft contact should be the focus…

  1. Great game, bad ending, Betances stood up though, said he fucked up… let’s get them tonight try to hold serve until they can get the first string back..

If not, that’s good too, we’ll get to see more wholesale changes, #HaCarel will have no choice but to play the kids, or he’ll have 25 people shopping at the Mall on Rivera avenue in August, and they’ll all leave after Judge’s BP show which seems to be YES’s biggest feature over the last 2 weeks

    Anything for a buck

  3. It was death by a thousand cuts last night. Losing a two run lead late with walks, a hit batter, wild pitch and one lonely single was tough to watch. It looked like an American Legion Game after the 7th inning.
Joey and Clippard were both delighted about his performance. Really? He was just not totally horrible, but far from good. A wild pitch and two walks, including one with the bases loaded is far from stellar.
The bar is pretty low right now.
Joey did look like he was shitting his britches at the end. Dallas was right. I do not see them ever winning it all with him. Get rid of #28. Going to that uniform was a JINX from the start. Worst part–Clippard bought another month.

  12. Headley did pretty good for a guy carrying a refrigerator on his back… Miggy can’t start playing third base fast enough….

I wonder if the White sox have any Japanese pitchers, Tanaka is playing with fire here tonight, he needs another steel cage match televised back to Japan

Gardner and Ellsbury together can’t throw as good as Melky…..

Espada knows Headley is slower then Posada why send him? Melky has a cannon

  24. Judge gets them out of the park as fast as anyone. What lasers he hits.
The new kid looks like he has a quick bat.
I hope Melky gets a shot this year with a good team. He can help someone. And yes, Sal, he has a gun. Two assists in this series.

    • Hey noogsie
Just saw a feed mention Judge only player to hit 6 HRs @115 exit V

The young man has been amazing

I hope Andujar sticks, Joe the chemist can give him reps at 3 rd base, move Headley to first when Romine catches, SanBino DH

Wade and Torreyes 8-9 if they can get on base Judge batting 2nd won’t hurt..

DD is quite the ball buster, good to see the boys having some fun, it looked rough for a while

Andujar looks like a baby Beltre,

Get that first base mit greased up Head

Girardi Sanchez exchange ? Looks like he got more focused on digging and blocking, lost some focus on offense.. tough to baby sit a pitching staff and rake, catchers get beat to death

      A Good night Noogsie

Fowler might be next if Austin goes on the 10 day, they’re all going on the 40 man anyway this stint can’t hurt

Fowler doesn’t solve the first base problem though, maybe Wade goes back

      Sal

      June 29, 2017 at 12:02 am

  25. Hope green is working on his off speed
    Q

Good job Green finally a hold or stop or whatever they call it

    2 scoreless sounds good
