Check- Mate

with 27 comments

Some dweeb in the Bomber front office thinks this is all Greg Bird’s fault?

Lets get this straight, #HalCare wants to  repeal his Daddy’s spending ways, So  there was no  desire to bring in some starting or any  pitching, sans the circus show Shotgun Chapman, who looks damaged after the Cubs used him up..

There was / is no desire to DFA Chase Headley, they owed him $26M for two more years..

Jacoby Ellsbury, worse contract in NYY history,

Hurri-K-ane Carter was picked up  as depth because his price tag fell  to $3.5M, despite his propensity to  strike out every 2.2 times up..

 Tyler Clippard’s last 13 games:
11.1 IP, 14 H, 16 R, 16 ER, 10 BB, 5 HR, 12.71 ERA.. Last night Brew Crew reliever Josh the Mad Hader  had seven strikeouts out of the pen in 3 innings, Tyler Clippard has seven strikeouts since June 18th.

Tyler Clippard has transcended a pumpkin, he’s  morphed into pumpkin pie  practically from day one, and most definitely over the last two weeks, but still Joey Claps calls his number in high leverage situations…√

Cashman refused to sign  established relievers on the market, or bring up his best  starters at AAA to use in the pen, instead the offense who  built up leads watched AAAA pitchers lose games at the varsity level…

Layne: 7.62 ERA, Gallegos 7.15 ERA, Herrera 6.00 ERA, Webb 4.76 ERA, Holder 33.1 innings  38 hits, 5 HR’s, 8 BB’s, German 10.2 innings, 11 hits, 7 BB’s, Ben Heller 6 WHIP

Dellin Betances pitched 8 of the 226 innings the Bombers played in June, why, because he’s my  9th inning guy regardless of game situation.. Now in July pitching every other day 2 innings 8 BB’s, 22.50 ERA, Dazed and confused

Aroldis Chapman after signing a ill-advised 5 yr $86M contract, is having his worst season  ever..

The replacements for injured veterans

At first, where Bird was 6-for-60 (.100) in 19 games, the Yankees have started seven players and they have combined to hit .226 (48-for-212).

At second, where Castro (strained right hamstring) was named an All-Star, Ronald Torreyes and Tyler Wade have combined to hit .250 (7-for-28). Castro is batting .313 in 73 games.

Replacing Hicks, who played three outfield positions, has been harder. Since June 27, Rob Refsnyder, Wade and Clint Frazier have batted .115 (3-for-26) with Frazier hitting the only homer. Despite a 3-for-25 (.120) slump in the seven games prior to landing on the DL with an oblique problem, Hicks is batting .290 with 10 homers and 37 RBIs in 60 games.

As for Holliday, who tested positive for the Epstein-Barr virus and hasn’t played since June 24, his substitutes haven’t done well, either. Judge, Sanchez, Tyler Austin, Miguel Andujar, Brett Gardner and Ellsbury have hit .211 (8-for-38) as the DH. Holliday is hitting .262 with 15 homers and 47 RBIs in 68 games.

Finally, Luis Cessa filled in for Sabathia and went 0-3 with a 5.93 ERA in three starts.

“A lot of times the division winners are determined by who survives the injuries the best,’’ Girardi said.

Guess What… Check Mate, you lose..

6 and 17 over the last 23, 15 games over .500 to  4 games over, 4 game lead to  a 4.5 deficit

Tied for 1st in the WC, so the Bombers will  crawl  to  the All Star break still thinking they  can secure a play in game..

If that’s the case they  should trade some lower prospects for a first base rental, and a few middle relievers.. Clippard and his $5.5M which is now cut in half should  be no where near  this bull pen after this weekend…

The touted farm depth has given the Yanks nothing so thinking they  can  contribute, especially the way Girardi  doesn’t trust  them and uses them in spurts… That  ship  has sailed, stop  the promos please

I doubt Headley is DFA’d, and Andujar’s NYY career starts, although I wouldn’t mind seeing that happen..

Until Hicks gets back keep  running Frazier out there for 2 more weeks, but I’d rather see Wade as the 4th OFer then Refsynder.. So the bench  would be Romine, Torreyes and Wade with Romine the back up  first baseman.. Better served add Cessa and Mitchell to Green, Shreve/ or a better acquisition, Warren Betances and Chapman, a 7 man pen carry 4 bench players, 2 that  can play multiple positions  so  guys don’t wear out as fast..

I’d also keep Choi and his shoddy defense here until they can grab Yonder Alonso..

  1. Cyborg Joe’s presser was non eventful, the bob Steele never came lol

the 6 and 17 beat down has him comatose, and the media didn’t grill him…… Even if this team grabs a lead which is hard pressed to think they can accomplish that with just 1 player on offense is whistling past the graveyard

  2. Why cant our ” hitting coaches” fix # 24 ??
He is a natural hitter who cant hit .

    July 8, 2017 at 9:54 am

    • he’s expanding the zone in my eyes Donny, I don’t think you fix that, that comes from within the player’s mindset..

The line-up is extremely short so Sanchez and Judge will not see too many good pitches, and they can’t miss the few they do see, which Sanchez has recently…. Headley should be batting second in San Diego not NY…

the first guy Judge patted on the back after his HR was Cockrell, that tells me Cockerell gave him some good advice, and Judge who worked his ass off all winter has been executing….

      That’s my guess..

  3. The only one who doesn’t know that Blow Torch Clippard is really bad is Psycho Joe.
Joe is still wanting to fix him.
As for Blow Torch, my beloved grandfather would have said—” he can’t pitch shit up a dark alley.”
    He would have been right.

    • lol Grand Pa Noogs strikes again….. brilliant…Joey’s ego and his job is on the line is my guess, so per usual the lying manager said he had Clippard fixed, in the lying manager’s mind they fixed Tanaka…

Tanaka fixed Tanaka, and Clippard is unfixable, he’s only here because they owed him $5.5M and that’s a lot of money for a middle reliever in their mind so “he’s our 7th inning guy”

Axisa had it right, they were hitting one fly ball after another in April, but the ball wasn’t carrying yet, when it warmed up those fly balls went for HR’s, now he’s afraid to challenge anybody.. that’s my guess

He should be somebody else’s 7th inning guy after Sunday, that’s if anybody wants to mess up their 40 man or 25 man roster carrying him

If i was a young player, Girardi would be the last manager i’d want, you can’t grow under him, he’s too uptight, and if you don’t produce right out of the gate he’ll bench you for a veteran.. Hard to do anything in life looking over your shoulder everyday…

Hopefully they just tune him out…. Notice how none of these valued 40 man roster DFA’s were picked up by any other team… every team has a slew of Mason Williams, Tommy Laynes Chris Carter’s, and they’ll soon find out they all have a Tyler Clippard stashed somewhere that they can’t get rid of….

Like you said noogsie, let Psycho Joe go rebuild the White Sox…..

  4. When Flash in the Pan a real company man disses Girardi at the post game, you know he’s lost touch…

The media, the fans and the players have tuned Joey out…..

  5. From Axisa which makes sense… Coming from a Kool Aid drinker this is telling… Wish I had read it before

A Lopsided Battle Of The Bullpens
One team brought their strikeout heavy top pitching prospect out of the bullpen. The other tried to squeeze two innings from Tyler Clippard. That’s the story of the game right there. One team has the best arms in the organization on the big league roster and the other is putzing around with journeymen and fringe prospects. The bullpen has been a disaster for weeks now and yet the same personnel remains.

    July 8, 2017 at 12:19 pm

    • That’s on Cashman, I know Axisa wants a gig sucking Cashman’s thumb, but he needs to take that fucking pervert Cashman to the wood shed once in a while…

      July 8, 2017 at 12:21 pm

  6. Yankees recall Ben Heller & Jonathan Holder from @swbrailriders, option Luis Cessa and Jordan Montgomery to Triple-A.

Just what they need two more retreads …. Monty is paper work his next start is after the All Star break.. But why bring up fringe prospects… They’re just tanking these last 2 games

    July 8, 2017 at 12:30 pm

  7. I tortured myself to watch the entire game then the managers “report”. Brewers had 5 errors,Yankees had 4 hits!! These are not the same gidrool Brewers we are used to seeing. It just defies belief that there is no one in the bullpen that can pitch a scoreless inning with the game on the line. Flash Flaherty and MKay both criticized Psycho for bringing Montgomery back after the rain delay, then walking Shaw while Shreve was warmed and ready and kept Clippard in until the game was in the toilet. In the presser,he said he thought Montgomery “had 10 pitches” left, long enough to try and lose the lead. Then he completely lied about the relievers, giving the usual bs that the relievers are not in order(they are)and he didn’t have everyone(they had a day off yesterday!!!). He said he didn’t have Cessa, but he pitched 2 innings!! Chapman was shown on YES warming up with 2 outs in top of the 9th!!-why????? The binder says Clippard pitches the 7th so he does, regardless of what happens. This team was 15 games over .500,now 4 over! Wade is just totally overmatched at the plate, its very obvious he is not quite ready for prime time.
Its amazing Frazier can hit with his off balance stance. Got to light candles, they have to win today.

    • wow.. good stuff Big D…

      July 9, 2017 at 6:16 am

  8. I’d run him out of town just for this quote

Clippard: “Obviously the walks hurt, but even the last at-bat when I gave up the home run, I made some good pitches. It’s just frustrating.”

    July 8, 2017 at 12:53 pm

  9. I’ve had too much stolen car aftermath BS to take care of, that has precluded me from focusing on the games this week.
But, this is now getting ridiculous.
I’m calling for a full Senate Investigation as to what Psycho Joe knew, & when he knew it.
He’s been making irrational moves. Almost, like he’s in the tank for the other side (Russians?).

I had to downgrade my ride, but I’m ready to participate in the Tessio Ride of Gas Can Clippard, to take place during the break.
Don B, has made all the arrangements, using only our most trusted people. With all the hoopla surrounding the game, the story of Clippard missing, will be buried on page 27 of your local paper.
    Next, will be the manager

  10. Moscone–rumor has it Feech LaManna uses a Chop Shop upstate. If you got the word to Tony real soon, he could fix this. Seriously, sorry to hear about your headache. My theory is that people should not bother other people.. And if they do and they’re then caught, you ram a corn cob up their ass.
This team looks lifeless. Sal has repeatedly said that Joey has lost them. So very true. Who would ever want to play for that jackass.

    July 8, 2017 at 1:41 pm
