Robbie Cano, Don’t you Know

Rob and Steal Manfred went out of his way to  dumb down  baseball on Monday  with the HR Derby..

While we take nothing away  from Aaron Judge, he showed tremendous stamina, poise  and character while proving under pressure he could hit 60 MPH cookies for 500  feet.. kudos… Manfred’s attempt to get kids and millennials interested in the game was a huge success, for 1 day  anyway..

Last night, with nothing on the table but professional pride, MLB was back to what Manfred feels is killing the game, not much offensive action in  a 2-1- 10  inning borefest won by  the AL on Old Man Robbie Cano’s 10th inning Tater off Wade Davis.

“He’s so gifted,” Miller said. “For somebody to do what he did in New York and have that attitude, it’s so genuine. When I first got to the bullpen in Boston, that was my matchup. I had to be ready for Cano, and that’s a pretty good test. Hopefully baseball fans know how good he is. I can’t imagine what the back of his baseball card looks like. It’s gotta be pretty good

The American League picked up  10 hits, 8 singles, a Schoop double, and the Cano HR in the 10th inning off a hung slider..The National League poked 7 hits, 6 singles and a Yadi Molina HR off a clothes line Ervin Santana fast ball that  tied the game 1-1 in the 6th..

An inning previous to   photographer Molina’s Tater, the AL scratched a run across the plate on a 2 out double by Schoop and a bloop  single that  fell in between 3 defensive players with Bryce Harper making the last attempt to  snag the pop  up, but it hit pay dirt for the RBI knock by Sano

As for our heroes Aaron Judge facing real pitching was punched out  in the first inning, grounded out in the 3rd, and hit a can of corn to centerfield in the 5th..

Dellin Betances looked like he possibly had his control  woes behind him  after giving up  a lead off single he punched out Blackmon who  was playing with the Francesa jinx  and home town here Carlo Stanton..

Betances slipped back into  the debacle he’s become over the last few weeks walking Harper and Posey to land the bases.. He finally induced Met Killer Danial Murphy to  ground out 5-3 to  end what could have been an embarrassing inning..

John Harper‏ @NYDN
Wearing a mic, Bryce Harper just told everyone the scouting report these days on Betances: don’t swing.

The SanBino grounded to  2nd base, and was part of a trio  that struck out with the go  ahead run in scoring position in the top of the 9th

Severino  never pitched, which is good, he had just  pitched Saturday

Now we know why Manfred hyped the Derby, unless he puts attaches a carrot to  the mid-summer classic, he’s got his work cut out for him making this game even remotely interesting for millennials

  2. Actually if Manfred wants throw more action into these All star games he should just choose Cashman’s bull pen to pitch for the AL, nothing but walks and then cookies over the plate, watch the offense pick up then….
