Yanks Go Old School
Well who said the Yanks were slumping, it took them 4 innings, but they finally beat up 60 yr old Bartolo Colon and evened their 3 game set with the Twins doubling down 6-3
The Game was almost a sidebar with Cashman going old school on the trade market flipping his #3 prospect Blake Rutherford, along with bust Ian Clarkin, a good potential 4th OFer Tito Polo, and Blow Torch Clippard..
Shipping Blow Torch to a Sanctuary City was worth the trade for many a NYY fan, but sending their first round
The Yankees acquired former All-Star closer David Robertson, former All-Star third baseman Todd Frazier and reliever Tommy Kahnle from the White Sox for prized outfield prospect Blake Rutherford, veteran reliever Tyler Clippard, minor-league pitcher Ian Clarkin, and minor-league outfielder Tito Polo.
This trade was about making sure the 2nd half gate stays in the green, and Rutherford was 4 yr’s away so they went old school George on this one
NY still has Red Bull Frazier, Fowler, Florial, McKinney, Cave, Mateo and Wade as potential OF depth.. Tuff losing a first rounder, but that’s what prospects are for and Clarkin and Rutherford were approaching Rule 5 status
Yanks opted for making money now while keeping the prospects that were close to helping the Cash Cow
They can use the help in the pen…Cessa really blew a big chance last night, trying to throw every pitch he possesses all at once kinda sucked
Yanks probably will look for another starter, but nothing crazy like Sonny Gray.. Cessa and Green have proven to be good AAA starters and great relievers on the varsity
Green Robertson Kahnle Warren Betances Chapman Shreve and a long man should give the Yanks the type of pen we all wanted to see, no gidrools, at least not on paper

Frazier was hot in June but was slumping in July, maybe this wakes him up… or Cashman traded a first rounder plus for two Bull pen arms… Re: bull pen arms, either pay me now or pay me later, but you will eventually pay at the pump… Maybe that’s the way GM’s want to deal in this era

relievers are getting expensive either you pay cash on the barrel head or prospect cost, but you’re paying…..

I was wondering what they were going to do about the number 30. I liked it on the Woodpecker. It fit. I’m torn, as to giving it back to Robertson or not.
I don’t like this deal. I said it last night.
Frazier is a 2 month rental who hasn’t performed like he has in the past. To give up a first rounder plus, who everyone in & around baseball said the Yanks made a steal when he fell to them in the draft, was the wrong move to make.
Fuck the gate. It took us too long to get to this point in the rebuild. Why do this now?
I envisioned, a few years from now, an outfield of Frazier, Rutherford, & Judge, reading from left to right. I know Rutherford is only a baby, 20yr old, but who knows, he could develop quickly & be with the varsity in a couple of years.
So, what? This move makes them a favorite to end up in the post season & beyond?
I’m not buying it.
I guess it’ll be years before we know if CashMan fucked this up.
We’ll have to see what Rutherford becomes.
But, I’m going on record that I don’t like this trade.
There, I said it.
Now, everybody belly up to the bar.
Sal’s buyin

Cashman it’s now a sprint
Ok so if Montgomery hits a wall he might not go after Sonny Gray but a steeper slope then Doug Fister
After Cessa bombing, Mitchell crawling to 5 innings, hopefully they keep Green in the pen, he’ll have to grab a starter
Let’s hope it’s just an innings eater and he doesn’t have to flip one of the “un-flippable”prospects
Sal

At least Montgomery hit a wall with 2 weeks to go
Unfortunately if this is a sprint he can’t run a turtle out there every 5 days
Might have to upgrade the acquisition
Let him throw another 50 pitches st least
Unless this gets freaky we’re looking st another lost series
What’s that 0-8-2

Although Mitchell didn’t have his best stuff & struggled with his command, I still like him a lot.
The Gumbino doesn’t have it today. If Berrios continues as is, we’s in a heap a trouble…

Oh boy, Kahnle throws 100 mph gas!
Did you see his thighs & hammys???
They are muscular & huge. I believe that’s where he gets him a power from.
A moratorium on Gidrools???

Sign of the apocalypse= Yankees lose a series to the Twins, after winning 10 series in a row! Yanks have no lost 10 straight series, most since 11 in 1991,the gory days. Gumby was garbage, just blew up in the 2nd inning, then pitched well, just a little too late. Despite the result today,Yanks are a better team since the trade. Bullpen gidrools are gone,so is Clippard and the Toddfather is a plus at 3b over Headley. Choi homers in his first 2 games, now released. Yanks finally got rid of Refsnyder, who had been buried deep on the bench since his error in rf in Chicago. He is a perfect example of how they can ruin a youngster by
yo yoing him back and forth to the minors, then not playing him while in the majors. Thats why young players like Frazier the Red have to play every day. Hopefully Refsnyder can catch on with another team.
Yanks now head to Seattle, where we will be tortured staying up late. They better start winning.
